Here you go.....matched up Lindsey's fat quarters with solid (or near to solid) colors from my stash. We will see how they mesh together for a quilt. So, if you click on the photo you can better see the problem with the light blue fabric matching up to the purple fabric with flowers......I haven't cut the squares from the blue yet, as I may try one first to see how it goes.....ideas?

My Nine Patch Diversion

I know....I'm supposed to be working on the wedding pillow....I guess I needed a diversion for a few minutes because this Nine Patch was calling my name....LOUDLY! Strangely, it is all fall colors....and, I guess you can say it is fall here.......cool weather.....lots of Sycamore leaves (they are huge) all around the sidewalks and on the lawn.....so this makes sense that I divert my attention from the task at hand......it sounds like a good excuse anyway....

Mod Mosaic Pillow part 1

Since I agreed to share the quilting process, there are times when I need help with color choices.....sew Susan graciously agreed to stop by on her way home from the gallery (Art Gallery in Downtown Melbourne) and help me with the outer border color.....I am very pleased that I could find more of this fun fabric!!! You may have to click on the photo to make it bigger sew you can really appreciate the tiny dotted swirls in the fabric.....Now, I'm off to the sewing machine to get this done so I can bring it to the quilter on Monday!!

PS.....I know you are wondering about the 3 pound weight in the corner of the photo......I use that a lot on my sewing table to hold things.....its like a 3rd hand!

The binding makes the white pop out even more than before....the yellow hairy yarn in the middle of the white squares is just plain fun.....the colors of the scraps (all pieces of fabric from my pink/yellow/orange drawer) are something I could not have picked out if I tried to buy them from a quilt shop.......the randomness of this quilt makes it special and it is one of my very favorite quilts that I've ever done!!!! LONG LIVE THE DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH! The label simply says "Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice"........

Baby Quilt....status update

Back to quilting......this is a disappearing 9 patch...... http://www.popularpatchwork.com/news/article.asp?a=5294 The directions are in the link .....so easy and looks like a lot of time was spent on it.....the fun is that you really do not know how it will look until you finish the squares. This is a good way to use up a lot of leftover material and scraps and we all know we need to do that!!!

I saw the large white squares in use on the website, http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/quilt-patterns.html and tried to copy the format for my baby quilt. I've not used white to this extent and I like it very much. And...then I had to DO something for the middle of the white squares....and my first thought was buttons...big, yellow buttons.......but since it is for a baby, I went with yellow, fuzzy yarn......glued it on and when the glue dries, I will zig zag it a bit......

Tiramisu

I'm on a mission to find the best Tiramisu recipe.....I have a dinner party to cook for in late January and so, to this end, I have tried my first Tiramisu recipe......it is from 2001 Food Network......and I will add the correct link when I remember it.....the results were good. It started with a 7 egg yolk zabaglione....added a pound of mascarpone and pure whipped cream....it was much better the next day, but I have to say the rum was too much.....I called Sharon to discuss it and she recommends Kahlua instead of rum next time.......so that is on the list to try.......the next day, the Tiramisu was much easier to cut and it came out in nice squares......last night, it was soupy and not "set" yet......still was good to eat. My victims, Susan and Keith, were complimentary and seemed to enjoy this dessert.

My dinner party....well, not MY dinner party....but the dinner part for which I am privileged to cook, will be for 20 people.....and the menu contains: Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Marsala, Talapia Piccata.....a nice green Italian salad with artichoke hearts and lots of olive oil and roasted red peppers......and Phyllis' Tuscan Bean soup.......the appetizer will be a baked Brie......grapes and thinly sliced sour dough bread. I am looking forward to the cooking!!!!

This is Fannie. She is an American Flamingo.....species Phoeniconais ruber ruber. They live in shallow, salty lagoons and lakes. They eat minute animals and vegetables. She can grow to 57 inches in length and weigh 6 to 8 pounds. Feather colors vary from bright red to pale pink. Her wing span is 59 inches. She will live from 15 to 20 years and longer in captivity. Baby flamingos leave the nest after 5 days and return to eat. She stands on one leg and curls the other to conserve body heat.

1/2 cup of your fav juice
whirr it up in your blender and drink....you won't taste the kale, but you will feel great and it tastes sew very yummy....

July 16...today I'm adding frozen pineapple pieces and fresh kiwi....trading out the mango and banana......

At Laura's house, we made Fiddlesticks (the flowers you see) and they will get a picket fence soon (after the FELE is over)...will try to upload the picture of what I'm hoping they will look like.....and the notebook covers are really fun and easy to make and embellish! Laura and I had a good time shopping at some super nice quilt shops in Richmond.

Let's see....the flowers start as 1.5 inch wide strips....bud is 3 inches; flower is 10 inches; stem is 8 inches; but you can lengthen or shorten as necessary...then you sew the 3 pieces together and then sew the strip right sides together leaving each end open. Fill them with pipe cleaners and bend them into a flower shape.

This is the craziest chicken/rooster pin cushion ever!! It is made with 2 eight inch blocks....ANY 8" blocks! This is a fun, quick project that should have everyone laughing when they begin to add the comb and tail feathers with crazy yarns!!! My friend Laura and I found this pattern in a WONDERFUL quilt shop in Richmond last weekend and we immediately went back to her house and created a prototype chicken. It's also the LARGEST pin cushion ever!!!! I can't wait to make another one.....this time in reds!!!!! The author of this idea is Carrie Nelson. The pattern can be purchased by emailing rosiesquiltco@aol.com. You may also call Quilter's Corner in Richmond at (804)794-1990. They are open on Sunday for a short time too!!!

Donna, Laura and Rebecca....let's check the layout of the leaves before I sew them on.....they are shown as off center on the pattern and even overlapping into the side parts....do we like this layout? The other parts are already sewn on and it is hanging crooked because it's hanging on a quilt with only a few pins so it's not your eyes going crazy!! It'll hang straight when it's done!!

I'm 99% sure Melissa doesn't peruse my blog, so I'm putting it up for all to see.....taking it to Cocoa Quilt shop today....putting flannel on the back so it will be soft......the fabric in border are all the same fabrics the animals are made from and Bob picked out the inside green border fabric. As soon as Mom and Dad decide on a name, I will embroider it in the dog block where there is an empty spot. The baby shower is April 21.

Baxter is 13 months old.....9 pounds...he knows 3 words, mommy, tug-o-war and octopus.....Bob claims to be able to talk to Bax......more on that later.... :-)

This design is by Julie Bohringer. I found the pattern at The Calico Cat.com in Auburn, Washington. Their website is easy to use and has lots of nice patterns. Julie has a website at www.patchabilities.com and she is diplaying some cute Frankenstien quilts and other fall pumpkin and turkey ideas. (candy canes too!!)

She has some of the most adorable quilt hangers I've ever seen....you have to check these out.

This is a 5" ornament for the Christmas tree.....easy to make and the carrot buttons were found at Just Another Button Company....on the web at www.arttoheart.com. He is stuffed lightly and then hand quilted around the outside of his hat and scarf.

There are lots of mini quilts in these last posts primarily because I needed some instant gratification!! I found this pattern at the Rockledge Quilt Place while I was retrieving my fall challenge and could not resist it.....it's all paper pieced media. Again, using scraps!!! Plus, you know how I feel about the color ORANGE!!!!
